Product DescriptionClos Apalta and second wine, Le Petit Clos, come from a special part of the Colchagua Valley. The vines have a north to south exposure, rare for Chile, and a microclimate that’s unique to them. The Tinguiririca river runs down one side, while the hills of the coastal Cordillera form a horseshoe shape around the other. This blocks out sunlight at sunrise and sunset, thereby drawing out the ripening and helping to make these remarkable, intense, long-lived wines.
Le Petit Clos is made from classic Bordeaux varieties and goes through the same meticulous methods as Clos Apalta. 'Malo' and the first six months ageing takes place in pure new oak, before it spends another 16 months in a mix of new and seasoned barrels.
James Suckling (95 Points) - 'Aromatic and herbal nose of thyme, bay leaves, currants, blackberries, licorice and pomelo pith. Medium-bodied with a fleshy, delicious and open palate. Ripe tannins. Plush and caressing finish'.
Wine Spectator (94 Points) - 'An elegant, open-textured and well-contoured blend, offering alluring balsam, cassis and dark chocolate notes that fold over onto the rich palate. Picks up crushed red currant and espresso-laced berry flavors, which have great depth and linger effortlessly around suave tannins, echoing back to the core flavors. Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2035'.
